Toyota Platz.
You what?
Mk1 JDM Yaris with a bit added to the back and therefore a four door, an answer to a question asked by few.

Wasn’t that also sold as the Echo in the US of A?

They are pretty common here in Canada (and the US)! We got them as the Echo sedan.

Hey! I have one of those only badged as a Yaris, it was the best selling car in Chile in both 1st and 2nd generations.
I can literally walk 10 minutes and find a dozen of the damn things in the street.

Really, it was a question asked by southeast Asians and Americans, who see a subcompact sedan as more prestigious than a subcompact hatch.

Yup! The Echo is awesome and doesn’t deserve the hate it gets.
Canada also got the hatchback version.

Sadly people here have the same taste in cars as Americans but with smaller streets so you get many small cars with trunks.

Wait, the US never got the hatchback version of that gen?

(looks up toyota.cl, having tried toyota.ch, toyota.ci and toyota.ce)
Finds a whole range of boxy little Yarises. No hybrid though and even big things like the 4runner have petrol engines. I guess you have very cheap fuel?
I thought the cute little Rush was familar and it is - it’s the Daihatsu Terios. We used to have them a few years ago.

nope :(
I really really want an Echo RS, too!

We did have the Terios too but Toyota decided it’s silly to keep selling only one Daihatsu model so they rebadged it a few years ago.
Regular fuel is about US$1 per litre, so more expensive than the US but cheaper than Europe. Hybrids still don’t sell very well and Diesels are less popular than petrol even though Diesel is almost half the price of Petrol.
